Waiting on Wednesday [4]

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Breaking the Spine. This week's pick is:
Yolo by Lauren Myracle
Expected Publication Date: August 26, 2014

yolo
Through texts and messages, the mega-bestselling, beloved Internet Girls series followed the ups and downs of school for three very different, very close friends. Now it’s freshman year of college for the winsome threesome, and *everything* is different. For one, the best friends are facing their first semester apart. Way, way apart. Maddie’s in California, Zoe’s in Ohio, and Angela’s back in Georgia. And it’s not just the girls who are separated. Zoe’s worried that Doug wants to break up now that they’re at different schools, and Maddie’s boyfriend, Ian, is on the other side of the country. In the face of change and diverging paths, Maddie’s got a plan to keep the friends close, and it involves embracing the present, making memories, and . . . roller derby! Using of-the-moment technology, Lauren Myracle brings her groundbreaking series into the brave new virtual world of texting and tweets.

I am so excited for this book. I have entered a goodreads giveaway (which is looking hopeful compared to the other ones I've entered) for it and I've ordered it off Netgalley. I need this book in my hands right now. I loved the Internet girl series and I had no idea that there was going to be another one, and now all I can think about it this book. Plus, instead of IM's, it's going to be told through texts, so that sounds fantastic!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books on my Summer TBR

1. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe: This seems like such a good summer read. I've heard nothing but good thing.

2. City of Ashes: I've already finished it, but it was one of my top priorities this summer, so I thought I would include it in this.

3. This is What Happy Looks Like: This seems like perfection and I've loved Jennifer E. Smith's other books, so why not try reading this?

4. The Kill Order: I've had this since Christmas. 2012.

5. Never Fade: I need to be ready for in the Afterlight in September.

6. Pandemonium: I want to finish the Delirium series this summer because I read the first book in 2012.

7. To all the Boys I've Loved Before: Do I even need an explanation for this?

8. Throne of Glass: I promised my friend that I would read this forever, and now it's the time to do it.

9. If I Stay: Maybe it will make me want to read Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, too.

10. The Book Thief: I've been trying to read this since December.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han: Review

The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer, #1)

Synopsis (Goodreads): Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer--they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

This book was an extremely cute contemporary read. The boys were definitely swoon worthy and Belly was a very relatable main character.  She was whiny at times, but I understand how hard it is to be the only girl around boys who wont let you do ANYTHING with them all summer. So sometimes I understood where she was coming from. Plus, I know Steven was supposed to be the protective older brother, but he was so freaking obnoxious. Sometimes he went a little bit to far when he was trying to prove himself to Conrad. Plus, I hated how he just worshiped Conrad. Like, he's not a god.
I wish there had been more of a love triangle. Jenny Han tried to make it seem like Belly was torn between Jeremiah and Conrad, but she only ever talked about Conrad. And, I'm kind of sad to say that she described Cam so well, that I was team Cam for most of the book, so the ending was a little bit disappointing.
However, I did love the descriptions of the Beach House. It made me just want to go lay out on a towel in the sun and drink lemonade next to the pool.
I also really enjoyed reading about Susannah. I felt like her relationship with Belly was very well done, and you could tell that Belly really cared about her. I had a feeling of what was going on with her from the second chapter, but I don't feel like it took away my enjoyment from the book; it wasn't supposed to be a mystery, after all.
I do wish that we had learned more about Belly and Steven's father, though. I feel like she talked about him for two pages, and then he hardly ever came up again. However, since the novel was more focused on Belly's love square, I didn't mind too much.
This book was extremely good, even with it's flaws, so I would give it a 4.5/5.

Waiting on Wednesday [3]

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Breaking the Spine. This week's pick is:
The Merciless by Danielle Vega.
Expected Publication: June 12, 2014
The Merciless
Synopsis (Goodreads): Forgive us, Father, for we have sinned

Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream.

Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed.

Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can’t go against the other girls . . . unless she wants to be next. . . .

In this chilling debut, Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?

Oh my god. Doesn't that sound absolutely fantastic? I usually don't read gothic horror, *cough, cough Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, Cough, cough* but this sounds two darn good to pass up. And it's only one day away from being published? How much better can it get, really?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I've Read so far this Year

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme is top ten books I've read so far this year. I haven't read many, but I've read a lot of good books so far, so let's get started!

1. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. This is by far my favorite book I've read this year. It might have even weaseled itself into my top five favorite books... of all time!

2. The Duff by Kody Keplinger. Ahh! I can't believe it took me until April 2014 to read this book. Also one of my favorite books of all time.

3. A Midsummer's Nightmare by Kody Keplinger. Just as fantastic as the Duff, because why wouldn't it be? I love Kody, and it's very obvious why.

4. Rebel Belle by Rachel Hopkins. This book is Hilarious and I loved the characters so much.

5. Cress by Marrissa Meyer. The best in the series so far. Now I'm so pumped for Winter to come out!

6. Prodigy by Marie Lu. While I love Legend and Champion, so, so much, this one has to take the cake.

7.  It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han. Even better than The Summer I Turned Pretty. I haven't read the third one yet, but I will soon. I'm not prepared for the overload of cuteness.

8. The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith. I got an ARC copy from my library for getting second place in Divergent trivia, so I got to read it before everyone else. And what can I say, it did NOT disappoint.

9. This 5th Wave by Rick Yancy. I didn't love this as much as everyone else, and it took forever to lug through, but it was still very enjoyable.

10. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. What can I say. It's freaking RAINBOW ROWELL.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart: Review

We Were Liars
Synopsis: Goodreads
A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

Part of what made this novel so fantastic was that I had absolutely no idea what it was going to be about. I recommend that you do not try and find out any more than what this synopsis tells you. Why? Because you will be spoiled, and your experience will be ruined. Unless you guess the ending. In that case, your reading experience will be ruined, too. Do not go into this trying to piece together the puzzle. Just go with the flow, and I promise that you will have your heart broker. Just. Like. Me.
The writing was fantastic. I was
very confused as to why
some sentences
were
written
like this, but it really didn't bother me that much. I'm used to Ellen Hopkins and Laurie Halse Anderson, so this was perfectly fine. But the words were so lyrical and it just added to my whole reading experience.
The characters were amazing as well. Especially Cady. And Johnny and Mirren and Gat. I loved them all, and I loved reading their interactions.
And the ending, oh the ending. I'm still broken. I wish I could just rip this book out of my heart forever. It's still feeding off of my soul this very second. But I can't do that. To do that would be an insult to the author and Gat and Mirren and Johnny and Cady. I can't do that.
Thinking about this book is making my brain and my soul break. I just can't. I can't come up with synonyms to words that I've used time and time again in this review. So I should probably stop writing.
But let me just say, I thought I new the twist at the end. I thought I had it pinned from the first freaking page. But I was wrong. Sure, a lot of people guessed it, but they weren't stone cold hard set on what they thought had happened. Sure, I'm not the next Sherlock Holmes, but I'm happy that I didn't guess the ending. Maybe then it might not be my favorite book of the year so far. Obviously 5/5 stars.

BoutofBooks Read-a-thon TBR

Hey guys! I wasn't sure if I wanted to participate in this read-a-thon, but I just made a split decision to. It's my first week back to school after winter break, and I do need to do quite a bit of homework, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get some reading done. My goal is to read two books and a novella, so here are they are:

Obsidian (Lux, #1)
I plan on finishing this book first because I am currently reading it. I'm halfway through and everyone I've talked to is one hundred percent right. This book is very, very addictive.

Prodigy (Legend, #2)
I recently finished Legend by Marie Lu, and I absolutely loved it. Everyone says that the series only gets better, so I can't wait to pick up Prodigy.
In Time (The Darkest Minds, #1.5)

I plan on reading this this week because, A) It's short, and B) Everyone says that you can't read Never Fade before reading this novella. Apparently it's critical to the story line.
